Mexican Energy Regulator CNE Approves Five New Fuel Station Permits, Brand Changes
Mexican energy regulator CNE last week said it approved five new fuel retail permits at its late-February meeting and accepted several other requests, including brand changes, permit transfers between companies and fuel transport applications.
The agency said it approved 10-year retail permits for new stations in the states of Jalisco, Oaxaca, Sonora, Aguascalientes and Tamaulipas. The latest actions bring to 21 the number of new fuel station permits granted so far in 2026.
CNE also said it approved 30 brand changes for existing service stations. Five stations switched from unbranded to Mobil, Arco or Valero Energy and the Pemex-branded station count increase by seven as stations changed from G-500 and Gulf brands.
CNE also said it had complied with rulings from seven administrative court cases involving stations that changed brands from Pemex to American First Gasoline, Arco, Mobil and unbranded.
Ten gas stations requested permit modifications to transfer their authorizations to companies that included Servicios Gasolineros de MΓ©xico, Tisur Gasolineras, Baja Coast Energy and Azmagly, among others. Five additional stations were authorized to make operational modifications, including increased storage tank capacity or expanding the number of fuel dispensers.
CNE also approved five 15-year fuel transportation permits for Transportes Terrestres GLE, AdministraciΓ³n Integral Cersa, Autotransportes GVT, Servicio Villa Alta and Transportes Lagar. Nine companies also requested early termination of their fuel transport permits.
CNE’s next session is scheduled for March 11.
