OPIS Successfully Completes its 12th Annual IOSCO Assurance Review

Independent assessment affirms the accuracy and integrity of OPIS’s energy, renewables and coal commodity benchmarks

OPIS, a Dow Jones company and a leading provider of energy pricing, news, and analytics, today announced it has successfully completed its 2025 assurance review of its key commodity benchmarks and price assessments in accordance with the principles for price reporting agencies (PRAs) outlined by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (the IOSCO PRA Principles).

Independent professional services company BDO LLP examined the policies and processes through which OPIS and its McCloskey business assess prices that are vital to oil and gas, environmental commodities, renewable energy, petrochemicals and coal markets for the period Oct. 1, 2024, to Sept. 30, 2025. This is the 12th annual independent review of OPIS’s energy benchmarks and the 11th review of McCloskey’s coal benchmarks.

This year, OPIS added British Columbia Low Carbon Fuel Standard Credits, U.S. Pacific Northwest ULSD, Indonesian Coals, and additional China and India Manganese Ore Lumps assessments to the scope of the assurance audit, demonstrating its commitment to the IOSCO principles and providing reliable price transparency for global energy commodity markets.

β€œIn an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving global energy landscape, OPIS’s completion of the annual IOSCO assurance reaffirms our commitment to providing markets with trusted, transparent, and resilient benchmarks,” said Sarah Cottle, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Dow Jones Energy. β€œAs energy infrastructure, regulatory frameworks and trade flows continue to shift, market participants can rely on our assessments with confidence in both periods of stability and times of change.”

β€œThis assurance reflects the strength of our governance framework and commitment to data integrity across our global editorial, compliance and operations teams,” said Lisa Street, Vice President, Compliance and Standards of OPIS. β€œIt reinforces the disciplined standards that ensure the reliability of our benchmarks.”

OPIS and its offerings are critical components of Dow Jones Energy. OPIS benchmarks and price assessments are underpinned by robust methodologies aligned with the rigorous editorial standards that make Dow Jones uniquely trusted in the energy, chemical and environmental commodity markets.

The 2025 report, including OPIS policies, processes and control activities governing the assessment of in-scope commodity benchmarks, and the findings of BDO, can be accessed via the OPIS website.
