OPIS Launches Los Angeles Jet vs. NY Harbor ULSD BALMO Futures on NYMEX/CME Globex

Rockville, MD – January 26, 2026 โ€” OPIS, a Dow Jones Company, today announced the launch of the OPIS Los Angeles Jet Fuel Balance of Month (BALMO) futures contract, expanding the suite of jet fuel risk management tools available for market participants.

The New York Mercantile Exchange, Inc. (โ€œNYMEXโ€ or the โ€œExchangeโ€) will list the Los Angeles Jet (OPIS) vs. NY Harbor ULSD BALMO futures contract (the โ€œContractโ€) for trading on the CME Globex electronic trading platform (โ€œCME Globexโ€) and for submission for clearing via CME ClearPort.

Designed to support short-term risk management in the U.S. West Coast jet fuel market, the OPIS LA Jet BALMO futures contract is a financially settled instrument that reflects balance-of-month pricingโ€”an important structure widely used in physical jet fuel trading. The contract enables participants to more precisely manage near-term price exposure and regional differentials in a critical aviation fuel hub.

The OPIS LA Jet BALMO futures contract will be available for trading beginning Monday, January 26, 2026.ย

The launch broadens the range of risk management solutions available to airlines, refiners, marketers, traders and other participants across the jet fuel supply chain, supporting a more effective alignment between future positions and physical market activity in the Los Angeles market.ย

Supporting Short-Term Jet Fuel Risk Management

Balance-of-month pricing plays a central role in the physical jet fuel market, particularly for buyers and sellers managing exposure between prompt supply and forward positions. The introduction of a BALMO futures contract linked to OPIS Los Angeles jet fuel pricing provides market participants with a targeted tool to manage this exposure more efficiently.ย ย

By referencing OPISโ€™ established jet fuel price assessments for the Los Angeles market and pairing them against NY Harbor ULSD BALMO, the contract allows participants to manage regional price differentials and refine short-term hedging strategies.

The contract is based on OPISโ€™ jet fuel pricing methodology, which is widely referenced by refiners, marketers, airlines, traders and other participants across the fuel supply chain.
