India’s Fuel Production, Exports Up in July: PPAC

Indian refiners processed 23.77 million metric tons of crude in July, up 2.0% year on year and 6.8% higher than in June, according to data from Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell or PPAC. The increase led the country to export more refined products amid supply disruptions resulting from the Iran conflict.

The higher throughput was supported by the return of Reliance’s Jamnagar refining complex following scheduled maintenance turnarounds in May and June. RIL’s crude processing jumped 19.9% month on month and 8.4% year on year to 6.32 million mt in July, the data shows.

Higher refinery runs enabled the net exporting nation to ship a total of 5.45 million mt of refined products in July—the highest monthly volume since September 2025— an 8.5% year-on-year increase and a 42.2% jump from June levels.

The export push came as supply route disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz caused widespread energy supply bottlenecks globally, opening wide arbitrage margins for Indian refiners to supply Western markets, an analyst said.

Gasoline and diesel made up 68.3% of total exported volumes in July, PPAC data shows. Indian refiners exported 1.28 million mt of gasoline in July, a 7.2% increase year on year and a 31.7% gain month on month. Diesel exports climbed 8.7% year over year and surged 82.1% on month to 2.44 million mt, the data shows.

Jet fuel exports totaled 439,000 mt in July, down 32.0% from July 2025 but were 6.0% higher than in June. Heavy distillate exports jumped 189.7% year on year and 47.7% month on month to 424,000 mt, reaching their highest level since May 2015.
