JetBlue Reports 80% Spike in Second-Quarter Jet Fuel Costs

JetBlue Airways reported a big jump in second-quarter fuel costs despite seeing only a small increase in overall consumption in Q2 earnings released Wednesday.

JetBlue reported spending $911 million on fuel and related costs in the second three months of 2026, an 80.71% rise from the same quarter a year ago.

Overall use, though, only rose 2.5% year over year in the second quarter at 215 million gallons used.

The airline’s release showed the average price per gallons was $4.23/gal – skyrocketing 76.3% from the same quarter a year ago when the airline paid just
$2.40/gal.

Fuel cost per one seat flown one mile (fuel CASM, or cost per available seat mile) was 5.31cts/ASM in the second quarter. That’s 75.1% higher than the prior year’s second quarter, when fuel CASM was just over 3cts/ASM.

Looking ahead, the air carrier expects fuel costs to drop in the third quarter and for the full year 2026. The earning statement shows expectations for both are $3.49/gal.
