Kroger joins retailers promoting summer discounts at the pump
Kroger, which operates more than 1,700 fuel centers besides its grocery stores, said this week that summer deals available to its loyalty club members provide savings up to $35 per fuel purchase.
Like the summer offerings from several other brands, Kroger’s specials aim to offset higher prices resulting from the war with Iran.
By clipping a digital coupon in the Kroger app or website, customers can earn four times Fuel Points on every dollar spent each Friday from June 12 through July 24 and July 1-4, the company said Monday in a news release. The offer applies to shopping in store, through pickup or by delivery. Kroger’s Fuel Points program allows customers to earn fuel rewards on everyday purchases. Customers normally
earn one Fuel Point for every $1 spent on groceries, with special promotions like quadruple Fuel Points allowing customers to accumulate rewards faster.
Discounts are redeemed in 100-point increments. Each $100 spent equals 100 points for 10cts/gal off. The maximum discount per transaction is $1/gal on a maximum 35-gal purchase. Points can be redeemed at Kroger Family of Stores Fuel Centers and participating Shell stations.
Additional savings are available through prescription purchases, which earn 25 Fuel Points for each eligible prescription filled and 75 Fuel Points for every qualifying 90-day refill.
The subscription loyalty program Boost by Kroger Plus allows members to earn double Fuel Points every day, and gift card offers provide additional fuel savings.
Other summer fuel promotions include:
• A 7-Eleven text offer from May through July promotes 7-Eleven app downloads. Users get 50cts/gal discounts by texting ALLIN to 711711.
The discount applies on the 7th and 11th days of each month.
• Circle K’s “Fuel Your Summer Sweepstakes” offers the chance to win a $315 Circle K gift card for fuel, according to the contest rules. The retailer will randomly select 250 winners. Contestants enter the phone number linked to their Inner Circle loyalty club account at the pump or in the store and purchase at least 5 gal of fuel. Winners are notified weekly by text message. The sweepstakes runs May 7 through July 4.
• ExxonMobil offers a $10 bonus for new Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app users. Members earn $5 in points on their first two in-app fuel purchases of 8 gal or more. The promotion runs from May 26 through July 25, according to an email to loyalty club members.
• Valero is celebrating America’s 250th birthday this summer by offering savings of up to 25cts/gal on the 25th of each month in May, June, July and August. Customers must use the ValeroPay+ app to pay for fuel at participating stations.
• Citgo is offering new members of its Club Citgo loyalty program a one-time discount of 20cts/gal, or up to $6 on purchases of up to 30 gal. The discount applies the first time they use the Citgo app to buy fuel.
