ThaiPlastic Recycle Secures FDA Approval for rPET Flakes

ThaiPlastic Recycle Group, a recycling company specializing in processing post-consumer PET bottles and caps into high-grade plastic flakes, has received a No Objection Letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its recycled PET flakes, the company told OPIS on Monday.

The approval, granted on Aug. 13, covers the Thailand-based company’s mechanical recycling processes and clear the materials for use in various end applications. These include food contact applications for raw and processed foods, packaging films for food types, grocery bags and non-food contact applications in multilayer packaging.

The company’s feedstock sourcing and recycling process were also evaluated as part of the FDA review.

The certification application process was supported by quality assurance solutions provider Intertek’s Assuris services.

β€œReceiving U.S. FDA certification reinforces our potential, production standards and the world-class quality of ThaiPlastic Recycle’s rPET flakes. This milestone not only strengthens trust among our domestic and international partners, but also marks a pivotal step in expanding into the global circular economy,” said Pongsak Jueng, chief executive officer of ThaiPlastic Recycle.

β€œWe will see significantly more products made from recycled materials in the market. It is no longer just brand owners who are conscious of plastic waste, but consumers themselves as well,” he added.
